Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

 

The University of Sharjah invites applications from distinguished academic leaders for the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA). This senior executive role carries primary responsibility for advancing the University’s academic mission and ensuring excellence across all undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate is expected to assume duties in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Role and Responsibilities

The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs serves as the University’s chief academic officer, providing strategic leadership in all academic matters. The role entails responsibility for:

  • Advancing excellence in teaching, learning, and curriculum development
  • Enhancing the quality of the student learning experience and academic outcomes
  • Promoting scholarly activity, innovation, and academic integrity
  • Strengthening faculty development, evaluation, and support systems
  • Overseeing academic planning, accreditation, and quality assurance processes
  • Fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and shared governance

The VCAA works in close collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for Medical and Health Sciences and the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies to advance education and research across medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and health sciences.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Appointment at the rank of Full Professor at a recognized academic institution
  • Extensive academic leadership experience, including curriculum development, accreditation, academic planning, and quality assurance
  • Proven ability to lead complex academic organizations and manage multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong record of faculty development, resource management, and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience in academic program design, assessment, and continuous improvement
  • Commitment to student-centred learning, academic excellence, and ethical leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills
  • A collaborative leadership style that supports shared governance and institutional engagement
  • Proficiency in both Arabic and English, as they are the languages of instruction at the University
