The associate dean reports directly to the senior associate dean for medical student education. Responsibilities include partnering with College of Medicine leadership, faculty, staff, local community and health system(s), and academic partners to implement and oversee all aspects of the medical education program in the community. The associate dean will have oversight and management responsibility for the recruitment and development of teaching faculty and financial stewardship and management. Additionally, they will collaborate to ensure curriculum performance, admissions processes, and student services are aligned to fulfill the College of Medicine’s goals and mission. The associate dean of the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus will build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in the region and community, including philanthropic support, and serve as the primary liaison with the Lexington Campus, other regional campuses, and college faculty and leadership as well as the dean of the College of Medicine. The faculty member will have a minimum of 40 hours of protected time per week to complete the duties associated with this role.

Administrative Activities
  1. Oversee the daily operations of the Bowling Green Campus, including:
    • Oversee the staff and budget of the Bowling Green Campus
    • Advocate for additional personnel and resources when appropriate
    • Direct supervision and mentoring the career development of the assistant deans
  2. Collaborate with UK College of Medicine leaders to support the mission and vision of the college and ensure compliance with university and accreditation standards
  3. Administer all academic and non-academic programs
  4. Work in collaboration with Western Kentucky University (WKU) and Med Center Health’s leadership and faculty to continue the development, implementation, and ongoing administration of the program
  5. Receive and address concerns of medical students, faculty, and others involved in the medical education program from orientation through graduation, provide a supportive student environment, monitor performance standards, and facilitate success in meeting the standards
  6. Maintain oversight and coordination of career counseling for medical students and of the residency application process and resident matching programs
  7. Review programs for effectiveness, including student feedback plus graduation questionnaire and residency match results
  8. Provide advice and counseling to students on academic and personal issues, developing a referral network for students experiencing difficulties while utilizing College of Medicine, University, and local student services
  9. Generate alternative solutions to problems and provide leadership and role modeling to future physicians
  10. Create a positive atmosphere for student professional development through a variety of extracurricular programs and events aimed at reinforcing professionalism and personal growth
  11. Monitor student academic progress through curriculum requirements for promotion and graduation to ensure that students are advised of their deficiencies so remedial mechanisms can be utilized in a timely fashion
  12. Maintain oversight of all student services, events, student space, student organizations, and NBME shelf and USMLE examinations
  13. Serve as the principal administrator for all college of medicine educational facilities in coordination with our clinical and/or university partners and the Bowling Green Business Officer
  14. Collaborate with the associate dean for admissions to lead and direct all campus outreach activities involving the Ambassadors and the Dean’s Student Committee on Admissions
  15. Collaborate, lead, and direct all campus outreach activities and serve as the principal representative of the campus and the University in relations with local external agencies (e.g., advisory boards, alumni, legislators, media, community leaders, business and professional organizations, etc.)
  16. Identify community programmatic needs, obtain financial support, and maintain a base of public community support
  17. Recommend community physicians for appointment as College of Medicine faculty
  18. Serve as primary advocate and spokesperson for the campus in coordination with the College of Medicine Assistant Dean for Communications & Strategy and University Relations
  19. Sponsor and promote faculty and staff development activities
  20. Work proactively with philanthropy to increase student scholarship support
  21. Promote an environment that advances inclusive excellence by embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus
Service Activities
  1. Develop and maintain effective community collaborations to optimize the medical education program’s service to the community
  2. Assist in the integration of the existing community education programs with the medical education program
  3. Attend and participate in the college’s Office of Medical Education leadership meetings
  4. Ensure campus representation at monthly M1-M2 course director, M3 clerkship director meetings, Medical Student Curriculum Committee (MSCC), and other relevant curricular-related meetings
  5. Engage in scholarly activities in medical education through mentorship of more junior faculty
  6. Attend relevant national and regional medical education meetings and participate in related organizations, including the AAMC annual meeting and the Group on Regional Medical Campuses (GRMC) annual meeting
  7. Engage in and sponsor professional faculty development opportunities that advance medical education
  8. Participate in signature events including, but not limited to, White Coat Ceremony, Awards Convocation, Match Day, and Graduation and participate in college-wide activities as deemed appropriate
