Overview

The Assistant Vice Provost for Global Strategy plays a critical leadership role in advancing Tufts' mission to provide a world-class education and enhance the global student, faculty, scholar, alumni, and partnership experience. This position is responsible for developing and leading global initiatives, international programs, and establishing the necessary partnerships and infrastructure to cement Tufts’ academic and research leadership globally. The successful candidate will have a strong background in international university engagement and leading global student support services. The Assistant Vice Provost for Global Strategy will also be responsible for connecting with and advancing a community of global stakeholders across the university to promote social mobility, career and life design, alumni engagement, research infrastructure, and partnerships by activating the Tufts Global Impact Network.

What You'll Do

Global Initiatives:

• Collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the Office of University Counsel, and Risk Management to inform policy and process development related to global activities.
• Develop, iterate, and implement strategic plans for global initiatives and partnerships to enhance the university's global presence.
• Align global strategy with the educational vision and priorities of the Office of the Vice Provost for Education in collaboration with the Senior Associate Vice Provost for Education.
• Partner with schools, academic departments, alumni relations, faculty affairs, students, and the broader community to promote international opportunities aligned with Tufts’ Global Strategy. This includes global educational programs anchored in learning pathways, alumni-engaged experiential learning opportunities, and international research and impact opportunities.
• Facilitate the integration of global awareness and outcomes into research, curriculum, and campus life.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the institution to build a sustainable infrastructure for global engagement among students, scholars, alumni, and partners.

International Services:

• Oversee the International Center, an immigration compliance and support services center for international students and scholars.
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment for international students by promoting cultural exchange and diversity through the center's international student services, including advising, orientation, and support programs.
• Collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Inclusive Excellence to support all international stakeholders, including scholars and students.

International Campuses:

• Oversee the European Center, Tufts' campus in Talloires, France, and build on its academically robust program to advance the university’s priorities and educational vision.
• Support the Director in developing and implementing an expansive vision and strategy for the future of the Center, including building on its success in engaging university students, faculty, alumni, and partners.
• Design and implement Tufts' approach to developing key hubs worldwide to advance its global footprint and the Global Impact Network.
Global Success and Support:
• Enhance global student services to support the academic and personal development of all students.
• Collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost for Research to develop a supportive infrastructure for faculty and scholars to engage in global research.
• Work with the Office of Alumni Engagement to strengthen and engage Tufts’ global alumni network in Tufts’ educational and research endeavors.
• Partner with the Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Inclusive Excellence to support all international stakeholders, including scholars and students.
• Collaborate with academic advisors, counseling services, global education, and career development to provide holistic student support, advancing global mindset as a core outcome of a Tufts education.
• Incubate and implement high-impact global programs and initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, graduation, and lifelong connection.

International Partnerships:

• Collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost for Innovation and academic deans to advance a strategy for global partnerships.
• Identify and expand relationships with strategic partners currently engaged with the university to achieve global and institutional goals.

Data Analysis and Assessment:

• Utilize data-driven approaches to assess the effectiveness of global and student services programs and iterate on their design accordingly.
• Monitor key performance indicators to assess the health of the Tufts Global Impact Network, including faculty research partnerships, student engagement (inbound and outbound), and alumni engagement.
• Make data-informed recommendations for program improvements across different stakeholder groups.

Budget and Resource Management:

• Manage the budget for global student programs and services, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
• Seek external funding opportunities, including advancement activities, to fund named/endowed programming and grants supporting international programs and initiatives.

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Collaborate with university leadership, academic deans, faculty, and staff to promote the university's global strategy.
• Represent the university at national and international conferences and events related to international engagement (research, education, and alumni engagement).
• Represent the university in international commitments and travel.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements: 

• A Ph.D., JD, or terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, law, international business) is required.
• Five or more years of administrative leadership experience with an emphasis on international higher education.
• Experience in developing and implementing innovative and high-quality international experiences and student/faculty services.
• Openness to and availability for international travel and activities.
• Demonstrated background in developing international programming and opportunities.
• Strong background in engaging with both curricular and co-curricular student support services and co-curricular student engagement programs.
• Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven ability to lead diverse teams.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-cultural skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including a history of integrating DEI into program development, delivery, and assessment, and experience supporting international student adaptation, learning, and belonging at an American university.
• Experience working with international students, faculty, alumni, and partners.
• Demonstrated experience in using data analytics and assessment to inform strategic decision-making and prioritization.

Pay Range

Minimum $125,950.00, Midpoint $157,500.00, Maximum $189,000.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
