Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is currently recruiting for an experienced Director of Business Development for Corporate and Professional Education. The Director will provide leadership, direction and strategic initiative implementation for the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University system comprised of three campuses – Daytona Beach, FL, Prescott, AZ, and Worldwide-for the purpose of: leading and growing the university’s professional and continuing education, working with campuses for course development, marketing and promotion of all corporate and continuing educational programs, and developing new avenues and ideas for expansion of corporate education.

It is expected that the Director maintains contacts across the University system, articulates the value proposition of the University, works with all parties to develop partnerships that support the mission of each partner, identifies and matches a company’s or professional’s needs with the university strengths, and listens to all stakeholders-helping to identify common goals and design projects and products that create mutually beneficial outcomes. Such outcomes will be measured in the quantity and quality of professional and continuing education training and of executive education training opportunities and offerings. This position should also seek to engage internal stakeholders in research and development opportunities that they discover. They are expected to maintain an effective database of contacts and conduct appropriate and thorough follow up.

The qualitative and quantitative goals will be established on an annual basis, by the successful candidate’s supervisor-with input from the Senior Vice Presidents and Chancellors who will participate in the annual evaluation process of the Director by providing input and feedback to the immediate supervisor regarding the Director’s interaction with the respective areas and the goals obtained in the fiscal year. While other benefits will be considered (e.g., corporate contacts, internships, research, etc.), one of the primary goals will be the financial return (revenue minus direct and indirect expenses) to the University from professional and continuing educational opportunities.

Travel to corporate partner sites and relevant trade shows and other events – as appropriate – will be required. Serve on various university committees as designated by the supervisor, to foster teamwork and insight across the University system in the realm of corporate relations, professional education, and community partnerships. He/she will work closely with ERAU Career Services-on all campuses—within the system to ensure that the necessary industry career expos reflect the current companies and identified companies, which ERAU has in mind for strategic purposes.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in complex business development roles that focused on growing relationships with clients and offering solutions based on their organizational issues. This role will require extensive travel (over 50%) and offers a base salary plus a lucrative incentive plan. Experience growing a college or university’s professional education office and programs is highly desirable.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

Demonstrated experience in complex sales and relationship building and networking skills required as well as understanding and familiarity with securing research funding within a university system environment. The ability to problem solve and multi-task are required. A working understanding and or knowledge of the engineering, aviation and aerospace industries, especially traditional and nontraditional engineering professions, is highly desired. Must be able to influence and interact tactfully and professionally with constituents at all levels-administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, employers and other external contacts, in person, on the phone and via computer media. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills is required. He/she must understand and operate within the University’s specific policies and procedures. Must have the ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple and conflicting priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and operate within a large team and interface successfully with smaller ones. Experience in career services, professional development, continuing education, and recruitment within a university system is desired.
