Department Summary
The University of North Texas Center for Young Children is an early childhood program within the College of Education. The CYC provides a research-based, high quality preschool program and serves as a model to others in the DFW metroplex and the state. In addition to offering care and education for young children, it also serves as a research center and training site for students in various College of Education programs. This work is done under the supervision of College of Education faculty and certified teachers and specialists, and follows strict guidelines and procedures that protect children’s rights, privacy and confidentiality.

Position Overview
he Department of Teacher Education and Administration (TE&A) in the College of Education at The University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for the Associate Director of the Center for Young Children (CYC, formerly known as the Child Development Lab). This is a staff position. Of particular interest to the College of Education are candidates who are committed to improving children’s lives through powerful learning, social-emotional wellness, physical health, civic engagement, and anti-racist education.

University of North Texas is a Tier One Research University in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex – the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. The CYC has been in operation at UNT since the 1920’s. It also serves as a research center and teacher education site for students in the fields of early childhood education, child development, and play therapy.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; substitute education for experience only.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of program related state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or a closely related field);
Evidence of at least five years of experience as an assistant director or as a caregiver working directly with children in a DFPS licensed or certified child-care center (or similar type of day care center that was formerly licensed, certified, or accredited by DFPS) or experience as an assistant director, or caregiver working directly with children in a licensed or certified child-care center in another state or country;
Fluent in Spanish and English
